COMPANY HISTORY

Karl G. Knobel was founded in 1933. Karl used the basement of his Wilmette home as his office and workshop. As the business grew, he moved his workshop to a three car garage behind his home. In 1949, he built the building at 1218 Washington Avenue in Wilmette, which still houses the office, showrooms, workshop and warehouse. Peter Knobel joined his father in 1957, followed by his brother, Paul in 1968.Karl’s daughter Janice and Peter and Paul’s wives are also an integral part of the firm. Peter’s son, Mark, started with the company in 1986.The business has evolved from carpenter contractor to general contractor to kitchen and bath specialists. Kitchen and bath remodeling now encompasses about 75 percent of our business.

As members of the National Kitchen and Bath association ( NKBA), our firm has benefited from their emphasis on education and product knowledge. Peter and Paul Knobel have both earned the associations Certified Kitchen Designer ( CKD) and Certified Bathroom Designer ( CBD) titles. This accreditation is awarded on the basis of their experience and competence in these design fields.

The Wilmette Chamber of Commerce selected our firm as the Wilmette “Business of the Year” in 1996. Peter has been an active member with this organization, he also has been a board member with the NKBA Chicago-Midwest chapter since 1986. Paul has been active as a past president and currently on the board of directors of the Wilmette Optimist Club.

We are fully insured and all of our work is guaranteed. Our projects will frequently start with a remodeled kitchen, followed by a bathroom and then a family room or other home project.
